The success of the Visa GreenCard
The launch of the Visa GreenCard in 2004 introduced the ClimaCount carbon offset scheme in the Netherlands at a time when the possibility to offset carbon emissions was still relatively unknown to the general public. Since then, the innovative concept of a green credit card that directly compensates the carbon emissions of everyday purchases has been enthusiastically embraced by Dutch consumers.
This success is largely due to
the credibility of the ClimaCount scheme. ClimaCount has an excellent
track record when it comes to fulfilling its promise to offset 100% of carbon emissions resulting from
Visa GreenCard purchases. Due to this, the Visa GreenCard has won support from Natuurmonumenten (a
Dutch environmental NGO) in the Netherlands and accolades from the European Financial Management &
Marketing Association (EFMA).
