Liaoning Changtu Wind Farm Project, Tieling City, China

Project site: Tieling City, China
Goal: Generate renewable power and contribute to sustainability of power generation in Northeast China
Project category: Renewable Energy
Status: Project registered in the UNFCCC CDM Register
Validated by DNV and verified by SGS under VCS Regulation
Methodology: ACM0002 Version 6 (CDM-Methodology)
Monitoring period: 11/01/2006 – 04/15/2007

Liaoning Changtu Wind Farm Project

This involves the installation and operation of 66 wind turbines, each with a power output of 750 kW providing a total capacity of 49.5 MW. The main objective of the project is to generate power from a renewable source, wind mills, and to contribute to the sustainability of power generation in Northeast China. The project will reduce GHG emissions mainly through the displacement of coal-dominated power generation.

The project is located in Tieling City, northeast of Changtu County. Changtu County is situated in the north of the province of Liaoning and has a population of more than 1 million. The centre of this proposed project is located at a longitude of 124°10’ East and a latitude of 42°48’ North. Average altitude of the site is about 220-390m above mean sea level.

Certification:

RePay International invested in this project by buying verified emission reductions generated by this project during the monitoring period from 1 November 2006 until 15 April 2007. After this date the project was officially registered in the CDM Registry (registration number 0883) with the approval of the UNFCCC Executive Board and after the date of registration the project will therefore claim emission reductions as Certified Emission Reductions under the Clean Development Mechanism.

Sustainable:

The generated power originates from renewable sources, and hence improves the sustainability of power generation in Northeast China and reduces the air pollution by replacing coal-fired power plants. Furthermore the project contributes towards the local economic development and creates employment both during the assembly and installation of the wind turbines and during the operation and maintenance of the wind farm .
